By 2016, the median white family was $152,000 wealthier than its black counterpart. During that period, the median wealth of white families grew over $50,000, McKinsey reports, but the median wealth of black families did not grow at all in real terms. Only five of the United States’ 607 billionaires are African American, Forbes’ Billionaires List shows.

A new composite population was formed as a result of intermarrying between the native Mesoamerican population of Cuzcatlan with the European settlers. The Catholic Church plays an important role in the Salvadoran culture. Archbishop Óscar Romero is a national hero for his role in resisting human rights violations that were occurring in the lead-up to the Salvadoran Civil War. Significant foreign personalities in El Salvador were the Jesuit priests and professors Ignacio Ellacuría, Ignacio Martín-Baró, and Segundo Montes, who were murdered in 1989 by the Salvadoran Army during the height of the civil war.

While Latina women face a multitude of issues in immigrating into the United States, perhaps the most significant ones revolve around basic human rights. All too often, illegal Latina immigrants are unable to avoid human abuse because of lack of protection from the law. As a result, Latinas endure a severely unequal migratory experience when compared to their male counterparts. The American Immigrant Council’s research states that in 2012 Latina immigrants from Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic had the lowest education level when compared to other countries.

I can’t seem to find the cases for it, but I learned this in a course at UCLA and I never forgot it because I was wide-eyed with this epiphany. It’s true and I hadn’t thought about it until my professor said it. Correlated to how hard we love and to our confidence, Latina women like to show the world how wonderful you are. This is very different to say, Scandinavian or Australian culture, where it would seem too showy.

The same can be said for El Salvador’s neighbors, specifically the original five states of Central America. Salvadoreño/a in Spanish and in English Salvadoran is the accepted[according to whom?

White men expect Latina women to call them “papi” in a sexual context, or use the term “mami” as a sexual compliment, but Latinx use these terms to refer to their parents. That media portrayal transfers into the real world where Latinas feel the obligation to dress explicitly or are expected to do so by white men in order to be accepted in society, which can harm the way Latinas view themselves. But some Latino women aren’t doing the rest of us any favors, with some popular stars contributing to exoticism.

Latina women need to feel needed, so they subconsciously let a man feel needed. Culturally, many of us in heterosexual relationships haven’t let go of traditional practices. The opening of doors, letting women go first, and men walking on the outside of the sidewalk are all old-school practices in courtship. It actually becomes common practice for Latina women to come together seeking group love and support.

Over the centuries, many remarkable scientists have emerged from Spanish-speaking lands, cultures and ancestors. Though grouping such a diverse collection of people under a single rubric — particularly the politically expedient but dubious term Hispanic – isn’t ideal, it does make room to explore their wide-ranging array of backgrounds and accomplishments. In May 2020, Lovato spoke out against police brutality in support of the Black Lives Matter and condemned the police officers that were responsible for the Death of George Floyd and for the Shooting of Breonna Taylor.

While working on her second studio album, Gomez collaborated with Zedd for his single “I Want You to Know”, released as the lead single from his second album on February 23, 2015. But take it from the girl who went to UCLA and would always be told “yeah, but you don’t count as Mexican” , that people perceive Latinos to be professionally challenged. Cultural limitations include getting married too young, having children out of wedlock, and having parents that don’t want them to leave their hometown. There are so many other socio-economic obstacles that must be over-come by Latina women. On that note, people will assume she’s not educated or skilled.

While Latinas have a rich history of leadership in their communities, they are underrepresented in all levels of government. From 2007 to 2012, the share of Latina women earning at or below minimum wage more than tripled. Latina women make 88 percent of their male counterparts’ annual full-time earnings. Latina women own 36 percent of all companies owned by minority women in America.
